Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction or impotence as it is also known, is a common condition that affects a lot of men. It occurs when a male is unable to get or sustain an erection firm enough and long enough for sex. 

Having erectile dysfunction can also be a sign of an underlying health condition that needs treatment. 

Symptoms

  • Difficulty getting an erection

  • Difficulty keeping an erection

  • Reduced sexual desire

Common Causes

In many cases, erectile dysfunction may be caused by something physical that effects the nerves of blood vessels. Causes include:

  • Chronic Diseases

    • Heart disease

    • Diabetes

    • Parkinson's disease

    • Multiple sclerosis

  • Medications and Treatments

    • Treatments for prostate cancer or enlarged prostate

    • Surgeries or injuries that affect the pelvic area or spinal cord

  • Psychological Issues

    • Depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions

    • Stress

  • Peyronie's Disease — development of scar tissue inside the penis

  • Alcoholism and other forms of substance abuse

  • Tobacco use

  • Sleep disorders
