Urinary Tract Infection
A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) occurs when any part of your urinary system (your kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra) becomes infected.
UTIs usually start in the lower urinary tract in the urethra. The infectious agent can then travels up the urethra and into the bladder where it begins to multiply and can cause cystitis (Bladder Infection).
If the infection is not treated the bacteria may continue further up to infect the upper urinary tract as well, including the ureters and kidneys (Pyelonephritis).
UTIs occur more often in women than in men.
